Dungeons & Dragons (also known as DnD or D&D) is often considered the first role-playing game. In 2024, it’ll celebrate its 50th Anniversary![1]
Back in the 1980s, DnD was on the receiving end of some bad press from several political and religious figures who were concerned about violent images and references throughout the game.[1]
Time has shown that the effects of games like Dungeons & Dragons on players are actually positive. Players often build strong friendships through the game and see improvement in their imagination, problem-solving skills, and empathy.[2]
Self-identified celebrity Dungeon & Dragons players such as Stephen Colbert and Vin Diesel have even shown public support for the game.[1]
Our list features a wide range of DnD guild/party name options appropriate for any group. We also offer some tips below the list if you’d prefer to create your own Dungeons & Dragons guild names.

DnD Party/Guild Name Generator
How to Create Your Own DnD Party/Guild Names
Creating your own DnD party or guild name allows you to choose something totally unique to your team that reflects your interests and personalities.
Create your own DnD party/guild names using the following tips:
- Use your party/guild members for inspiration. Your name is your group’s first impression, so choose it wisely. Choose a word or phrase that represents your group and suits the way you want to portray yourselves within the game. Think of each character and the most impressive powers they possess for inspiration.
- Consider a common word as your base. You can take a word that seems familiar and unimaginative on its own, tweaking it to build a unique name around it. For example, the word “mutiny” on its own isn’t bad, but it lacks pizzazz. Add the word “whisper” to it to create a name like “Whispers of Mutiny,” and you have an awesome guild name!
- Get inspiration from several names that you like and combine them. Combining several party/guild name ideas into something new is a great way to develop a unique name. You can also find synonyms for your name ideas to find unusual and lesser-known options.
