How to Create a Good Comedy/Improv Group Name

There are absolutely no rules when creating your comedy or improv group name!

The only real “requirement” is that it should reflect your sense of humor, of course.

Keep the following tips in mind to create or find the best name:

  • Make it personal. You can get inspiration from your own life or the lives of your groupmates to create a funny name that will make people ask, “What’s that about?” The weirder the experience, the better the name is likely to be. Experiences you’ve had as a group can also work, like something funny that happened at practice or on a night out.
  • Make it unique. Simple and familiar names might make it difficult for people to find information about your group and its upcoming performances through online search engines. A quirky or uniquely-worded name will help results related to your group pop up immediately and might make your group more memorable.
  • Make it original. This goes along with making your name unique, but it’s a good idea to run a quick search to make sure no other groups in our area or elsewhere are already using your favorite name options. The last thing you need is a feud with another group or a name change after already beginning to promote your group!
